Studio guidelines

A one-room studio only works if everyone knows how it runs. None of this is complicated — it is mostly about timing and courtesy.
The one to remember

Twenty-four hour cancellation policy

Cancel or reschedule at least twenty-four hours before your class or session. Inside that window a packaged class is forfeited and an unpaid session is charged in full. We cannot make exceptions — including for weather and traffic.
House rules

How the studio runs

01

Registration

Group classes need advance registration to hold your spot. Drop-ins are welcome but cannot be guaranteed, because wait-listed clients get priority. We use Mindbody for scheduling — if you do not have an account yet, you can create one when you book a class.

02

Cancellations

A firm twenty-four hour policy applies to every group class and private session. Cancellations and reschedules must be made at least twenty-four hours ahead. Inside that window, a class booked as part of a pack is forfeited, and an unpaid session is charged at full price. Weather and traffic are not exemptions — we have to plan to be there on time too.

03

Arrive on time, and not too early

We are a one-room studio with no lobby or waiting area, and classes start on the hour or half hour. If you arrive early, please wait outside until your instructor has the room cleaned and reset — walking in early interrupts the session still finishing. There is a bench outside, and Second State Coffee next door. On your very first visit, five to ten minutes early is ideal so you can meet your instructor and get set up.

04

Phones stay off

Turn your phone off before you come in, or better still leave it in the car. Fifty minutes without it is part of what you came for, and a ringing phone pulls the whole room out of the work.

05

Payment

We accept all major credit and debit cards, cash, and checks made payable to Pilates of Charleston.

06

What we ask in the room

Arrive ready to work. Tell your instructor about any injury or hesitation before class rather than during, and speak up if an exercise does not feel right — we will give you a modification. Ask for help with the equipment any time: the foot bar, the springs, a caught strap. Bring a water bottle, skip the gum, and if you need to leave early, mention it before class starts rather than mid-plank. Beyond that: the room is small and your energy carries. Come in willing to work and to cheer on the person on the next reformer.

First visit

A short checklist

Wear

Something you can move in, close-fitting enough that your instructor can see your alignment and correct it.

Bring

A water bottle. Leave the gum behind — you spend a lot of a reformer class on your back.

Arrive

Five to ten minutes early, so there is time to meet your instructor and set the reformer before class starts.
